I found a darling new hairstyle and the
owner of Talk of the Town modified
it, just for me. However, before I left the beauty salon, Allyson hinted that if
I changed up my hair color, it would brighten
my face and it would make me look more…youthful.
Ba-Bing! Allyson whispered the key
words (brighten and youthful) which got my attention. (Vanity vanity thy name
is woman.) Without talking to any of my friends or family, I made an
appointment for early the next day.
When
I elegantly plopped my head upon my pillow at bedtime, thoughts of panic began
slithering through my mind. How can I sleep? What if Allyson is totally wrong? What if I hate my new hair
color? Will I be able to face my clients if I look like a clown? Oh, Lord help me!
Don’t get me wrong, I am not a virgin. I
actually started coloring my blonde hair a few years ago, just to blend in the
gray. However, this time…I am going red. Yes, you heard me…I am going r-e-d. “People,
do not adjust your TV sets!”
The next morning I woke early. Indecisive thoughts
were still whirling around in my head as I drove down 98 towards Foley. I can
always cancel, I told myself as I stopped to simply top-off my gas tank. Maybe
I should get a little bite of something-something to calm my tummy. Oh, for
crying out-loud, this woman is a professional, she owns her own shop! “Just Do
It,” was my battle cry, as I pulled up my big-girl panties, jumped in my
minivan, and tore out of the gas station.
Arriving home two hours later, I sauntered
through the front gate and spied my 100-pound Great-Dane guard-dog, lying on
his back allowing the sun to warm his fat belly. Slowly lifting his huge head
at the sound of my footsteps, our eyes connect. I felt a prickle of fear run
through my gut. Will Lurch recognize me with red hair? Do dogs even see color? Gripped
with fear I picked up my step and trotted up the walkway flying into the front
door as I watched his neck twist around like Linda Blair’s head did, in the movie,
The Exorcist.
Charging straight into the bathroom I
flipped on the light, gathered my hair products to put my ‘own’ styling touch
to my freshly dyed mane. As every hair moved perfectly into place, I dabbed on
some makeup, and grabbed my camera. I’m ready for the reveal!
After taking several snapshots, head up of
course to avoid any double chin, I posted them on Facebook. The feedback was all positive, which is a
good thing, because I really like the color, the cut is fantastic and I do believe
I feel younger and incredibly vibrant. (Hey, today the cute UPS driver came
back twice. Coincidence? I think not!)
Allyson’s business card proclaims Making You Good Lookin’. Well…I don’t
know about that, but I can say, “I am sure…..lookin’-good!”
