What do most three-year-olds ask for from Santa? Something they have seen on TV or at a playmate’s house? My three-year-old is not big on demanding presents- and I’m not complaining. But I had anticipated a list comprising of at least a few things this year.
Last year, the only thing he asked for what the movie Cars. Santa was happy to comply with this small wish. For his May birthday, the only things he requested was a Lightning McQueen themed birthday party. Are you sensing a theme here?
For the past two months, any time any one has asked him what he wants for Christmas, his response has been exactly the same: “Whatever Santa brings me is fine.” I’m not trying to encourage him to be greedy and focused on getting rather than giving at this time of year, but I did expect an item or two that he was anticipating under the tree.
I assumed that gifts were now at our discretion. And I think Santa came up with some pretty good ideas this year. Santa is always way outspent by grandparents and aunts and uncles who don’t have other little kids to buy for. But there are a few items that we thought would be loved and used and would make great presents, whether he realized he wanted them or not. So, Santa’s gifts have been in hiding for some time now.
Three days ago, he was happy to pronounce, “I know what I want from Santa! A racing train and a brand… new… ROCKET!!!”
Umm….. First of all, what on earth is a “racing train?” He is getting some new parts to the wooden train set he was given for his birthday, so I’m hoping that will suffice.
Second- a rocket? Is this a toy? Or is this something that actually shoots into the air? And where would I get something like that?
Besides that, do I actually try to get one? I thought buying for him was completed. I don’t want to get into the habit of spending more than originally planned on Christmas gifts. Honestly, I could go to the toy store and spend, spend, spend on things that he would love. But I don’t do this for all the same reason most other people don’t (too expensive, overwhelming, and most importantly, this isn’t really what Christmas is about).
But it is the only thing that he’s asked for. He has never requested bicycles, a TV, or a dog. Supposing I can find a rocket that is appropriate for a three-year-old and isn’t too expensive, should I buy it?
