Tabula rasa. Remember that phrase from philosophy class? I do. Blank slate. As blank as the paper ahead of me.
Some days, writing flows effortlessly; other days, it’s as hard as molasses in winter. Today’s would be the brown sticky mess.
“Hey, boys, what should I write about for Mamazina?”
“Write about being sick.”
Sounds good to me.
How about the fact that I despise being sick? Some moms may enjoy the rest that sickness provides, but not me. I miss my familiar, albeit, hectic schedule. Whenever a kid is sick with the sniffles, the life of the family ambles on. Not so with the mom. Fast food becomes the norm, dishes and clothes pile up. Today I found myself closing one eye and staring down the shaft of my drinking straw from Arby’s. What did I expect to discover at the bottom of my blackberry iced tea? Life’s answers? Oh, I am so bored.
I have found one answer: Kudos to the brainiac who invented tissues with lotion. I love you.
Simple pleasures thrill me. Last time I blogged at Mamazina I wrote about my beautiful pink rose. It is just as lovely, although dried, still smiling at me.
Earlier today, two of my sons and I played balloon volleyball in the living room until this sickee dropped the ball – the balloon. Game over.
Another simple pleasure afforded me is that in only one day I am half finished reading a Nora Roberts romance – just for the heck of it. And the day’s not yet over. Who knows, I may read the whole thing.
I’ve taken two naps today. What a wimp! But I know me, and if I don’t take it easy now, I’ll pay for it for the next month. So I’ll keep staring down straws, letting my mind wander, until my body’s good germs knock off the bad ones.
Ah…choo!
