Well, I just came from my oh-so-pleasant six week postpartum checkup. (You all know what that means...) But in talking with my doctor about the breastfeeding problems I've been having, she had some wonderful words of wisdom.
She told me that women like us are too cerebral, that we are goal oriented and that once we set a goal, we expect to achieve it. Soon. Because we work hard until that goal is complete.
She continued, "but babies don't work that way, and sometimes it's hard for women like us to accept the fact that our children operate on their own schedule."
I guess I knew all of this, but hearing it again really struck a chord with me. It reminded me that while motherhood seems like a career, it's not a J-O-B job.
It's an L-O-V-E job.
Just wanted to pass on my doc's wise words on this snowy and windy Ohio Tuesday morning before I sit on the couch with my little one and let the time pass without looking at the clock.
